SPRING LAKE TOWNSHIP, MI - Dutch Girl Brewery was in business for less than two years before it abruptly closed in March.
Less than two months later, on Tuesday, May 2, the company filed for Chapter 7 bankruptcy with the Western District of Michigan Bankruptcy Court.
Opened in 1992, Zingerman’s Bakehouse brings traditionally baked breads and pastries to food lovers in Ann Arbor and across southern and central Michigan. If a buyer is not found, "an auction will take place in the coming weeks," the post said. In Chapter 7 bankruptcy, a trustee is appointed to sell the company's assets, and the proceeds are used to pay off the debts. Dutch Girl, which opened in July 2015, is not alone in its struggle in the Michigan craft brewing industry.Last summer, Willow Brewing -- a venture started in 2011 inside of Marinades Pizza Bistro in Rockford -- shut down.We also reach Zingerman’s customers around the country through Zingerman’s Mail Order.Founded by Frank Carollo and now run by Frank and Amy Emberling (an original Bakehouse staffer), the Bakehouse also has an onsite Bakeshop, which sells baked goods to retail customers as well as BAKE!
