Wambach competed in four FIFA Women's World Cup tournaments: 2003 in the United States, 2007 in China, 2011 in Germany, and 2015 in Canada, being champion of the last edition; and two Olympics tournaments: 2004 in Athens and 2012 in London, winning the gold medal on both.
All together, she played in 29 matches and scored 22 goals at these five international tournaments.
Just months after revealing she divorced her husband of 14 years and fell in love with retired female soccer star Abby Wambach, popular Christian author Glennon Doyle Melton announced she's now engaged to Wambach and plans to stay with her "forever.""Abby and I have decided to hold hands forever.
Love Wins," Doyle, who has three children, wrote in a Facebook post Saturday accompanied by a picture of hands with engagement rings.
The book is about Doyle Melton's marriage and how she was able to heal after discovering her husband, a former model, had been unfaithful to her.
While many of her nearly 700,000 fans on Facebook celebrated her announcement, others like David Hunter, called her a "false prophet" but said he would pray for her."This is a perfect example of the prophetic Bible verse Scripture (Isaiah ) that says, in referring to the last days; 'good will be called evil and evil will be called good.' Glennon, you are what the Bible refers to as a false prophet.
This moment is utterly loaded with meaning and possibility. I don’t mean just politically – I mean in our hearts, in our homes and our neighborhood and schools and cities and world. And this time in our country is – how can we say – NOT HELPING. Reading and listening and wondering how all of this fear mongering is affecting our collective hearts and what it means for our children and future. My fear makes me want to pretend it’s not happening and say: NOTHING. Because you guys, here’s the secret: Fear Can’t Survive Proximity.
My anger makes me want to lash out – to vilify and insult people who understand love differently than I do. Because the most revolutionary thing we can do is simply. YOU ARE INVITED TO MEET AND KNOW AND LOVE EACH OTHER.
Media mogul Oprah Winfrey also announced that she had selected the book for her book club.
Wambach was awarded the 2012 FIFA World Player of the Year, becoming the first American woman to win the award in ten years.
She was included on the 2015 Time 100 list as one of the most influential people in the world.
Wambach also posted the same photo on Instagram with the message: "Happy.
#iseethemoonnow."Wambach, 36, was previously married to former professional soccer player Sarah Huffman.
