While we grow up thinking about love in black and white, they grow up inscrutably grey.
but exentricity (and even craziness french people often say "ils sont fous ces américains ! " but in a friendly way) is sometimes percieved like a defect( I'm not sure about the word ) because we often hear that some americain do crazy things with their dogs for example ( they treat them like babies, or human beings), but we also often hear that americans are ready to sue somebody for anything and many other things that may let us think that americans are somewhat crazy.
The French often meet their significant other through their social circle at group get-togethers rather than “date" people they hardly know.
The way the French respond to another's interest in them, their accepted behavior during courtship and how their relationships progress can baffle an American seeking love in France.
For Ella (and any other American gals here who are dating a Frenchman), Are you interested in French guys because of being interested in France or is it the other way around?
Me, I've been sadly disadvantaged in that department because where I live isn't exactly abundant in French visitors or inhabitants, and unfortunately I've never been in the position to travel to France.
