Teenage dating in the 1970s

Teenagers in the 1950's are so iconic that, for some, they represent the last generation of innocence before it is "lost" in the sixties.

Then again, few other countries have the same social conditions as America.

According to the researchers, "because a hook-up can refer to kissing and petting as well as sexual intercourse, adolescent girls can disclose during post-encounter commentary with peers without having to worry about being considered a "prude" or a "slut"".

The term's vagueness can, however, lead to differing expectations among participants and emotionally painful consequences.

By the 1990s, 56% of women and 73% of men indicated they had had intercourse before their 18th birthday (Alan Guttmacher Institute, 1994).

At each age between 15 and 20, higher proportions of teens are sexually experienced today than were in the early 1970s.
